Asian Handicap (beginner guide)

Understand Asian Handicap, quarter lines, and half-win/half-loss results

Updated over 3 months ago

What it is?

Asian Handicap (AH) evens a mismatch by giving one team a head start (underdog) or a penalty (favorite). The handicap is applied to the score after the match (or half) to grade your bet.

Why use it?

  • Removes or reduces the draw from many markets.

  • Lets you fine-tune risk with whole, half, and quarter lines.

Core lines

  • 0 (Draw No Bet)
    Win = win. Draw = push/refund. Lose = loss.

  • ±0.5
    +0.5 wins on win or draw. −0.5 needs a win.

  • ±1.0
    −1.0: win by 2+ to win; win by 1 = push.
    +1.0: win or draw = win; lose by 1 = push.

  • ±1.5 / ±2.5
    Half-goal lines have no push.
    Example: −1.5 must win by 2+; +1.5 wins unless losing by 2+.

Quarter lines (stake splits)

Your stake splits 50/50 between the two nearest half/whole lines.

  • +0.25 = half on +0 and half on +0.5
    Win = win. Draw = half-win. Lose = loss.

  • −0.25 = half on 0 and half on −0.5
    Win = win. Draw = half-loss. Lose = loss.

  • +0.75 = half on +0.5 and half on +1.0
    Win/Draw = win. Lose by 1 = half-loss. Lose by 2+ = loss.

  • −0.75 = half on −0.5 and half on −1.0
    Win by 2+ = win. Win by 1 = half-win. Draw/Lose = loss.

Quick soccer example

Real Madrid vs Barcelona

  • Real Madrid −1.5 → needs to win by 2+ (2–0, 3–1 = ✅; 1–0, 2–1 = ❌).

  • Barcelona +1.5 → wins if win/draw/lose by 1 (1–1, 0–1 = ✅; 0–2 = ❌).

Asian totals (Over/Under)

Same logic on goals:

  • 2.0: exact 2 = push; Over wins 3+, Under wins 0–1.

  • 2.25: splits Over 2.0/2.5 (or Under). Can half-win/half-lose.

  • 2.5: no push.

Good to know

  • All Asian Handicap and Asian totals are straight bets (single selections).

  • Check if the market settles on 90 minutes (regulation) or includes extra time—see your bet slip/House Rules.

  • Your slip shows the stake split and settlement for your exact line.
